From Sea to Sea
A World-First Swim for Life-Saving Causes
In a quiet but determined bid to make history, this September, former professional rugby union player Iain Sinclair, will attempt a world-first: swimming the full 60-mile length of the iconic Caledonian Canal - from Fort William to Inverness - to raise funds and awareness for three vital charities: Crohn’s & Colitis UK, British Heart Foundation, and Mikeysline.

MORE THAN JUST A SWIM
This isn’t just an endurance test, it’s a journey of meaning, resilience, and community. At the heart of Sea2Sea is a commitment to supporting those who face daily battles with physical and mental health.
Iain is dedicating the swim to the memory of his good friends:
Colin Maguire, a friend and Ironman teammate who died suddenly from a heart attack in 2024, and,
Jenny Hastings, wife of friend and former rugby teammate Scott Hastings, who was a passionate open water swimmer and mental health advocate, who tragically lost her battle with mental illness.

SUPPORTING THREE AMAZING CHARITIES
The challenge will raise awareness and funds for three charities that hold personal significance to Iain and are making a meaningful impact on people’s lives across the UK:
Crohn’s & Colitis UK - which provides support and drives research for the more than 500,000 people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
The British Heart Foundation - funding life-saving research into heart and circulatory conditions.
Mikeysline - a mental health Highland-based grassroots charity offering direct support services across the region.

WORLD RECORD ROUTE
The Sea2Sea challenge will take place in one of Scotland’s most iconic waterways, the Caledonian Canal.
Over 10 days, Iain will complete the full 60 sea-to-sea route, taking him across Scotland, from the Atlantic waters in the west to the North Sea in the east.
Supported by Scottish Canals, Huub Design, safety professionals and the expert Sea2Sea team, Iain will navigate through 29 canal locks, creating history with every stroke and marking a true world-first in open water swimming.
This isn’t just a swim. It’s a tribute, a challenge, and a chance to give back.

A TRUE TEAM EFFORT
A number of vital partners have made the Sea2Sea challenge possible and offered their invaluable support.
From Scottish Canals, who are the body responsible for managing the country's inland waterways, to Huub Design, who are providing cutting-edge swim gear and support. All the partners have played a key role in promoting the challenge and ensuring the is completed safely.
